How to Apply for Masters by Research (international students)
Preliminary Enquiries
Prospective international students wishing to apply for Masters of Arts by research need to check the areas of expertise of academic staff in the School (Political Science: Research Supervisors, Criminology: Research Supervisors, Sociology:Research Supervisors). Also, and prior to submitting an application, they need to establish whether supervision is likely to be available for their proposed research. To do this, please send an email to the Research Officer with the following information:
- a 2,000 word research proposal with a clear title
- a brief biography and your full contact details
- some details about your educational background
Your research proposal should outline your proposed research project, including a clear indication of which texts/materials you intend to focus on and what your methodology or approach will be. You will be advised to proceed with an application should supervision be available

The School requires research higher degree applicants to provide the following documentation in addition those specified in the application form.

Applications for research higher degrees may be submitted at any stage throughout the academic year, however, international students must apply before 31 August to be considered for scholarships in the following year.
